Windows 10 update on reboot causes 3 bluescreen and a forced repair - Windows 10 Support - BleepingComputer

Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1288). It is Windows 10 Home, updated "for free" from Windows 7.

I desire full control over my computer so I've tried to disable updates, but now things are in an annoying state. I've managed to prevent automatic reboots for updates and for the state of Windows to change, which is what I want for the most part.

However, now, everytime I reboot or shutdown the PC, there is a "pending" Windows update that forces itself to install. What happens then is this:

-Goes to 30% install, computer resets.

-Tries to boot PC, fails, bluescreen

-Tries to boot PC, fails, bluescreen

-Tries to boot PC, fails, bluescreen (3 times in a row)

-The 4th boot, it starts an automatic recovery thing

-The PC finally boots and the update says it "failed", undoes itself

This entire process takes about 10 minutes of my time. The only way around it I have found is to turn off my computer via turning the power off or holding the power button down, which isn't exactly ideal.

I've tried seemingly everything I can google but nothing I can find actually stops the update "attempt" to happens every reboot, and am at a loss where to even ask. I've also tried a few alternate reboot method (I don't mind if I have to use command prompt shenanigans to reset) but none works.

To be clear, I do not want the update to work, I want it to stop ever attempting it again.  Any advice would be appreciated.
